Preparing Your Tractor for the Kharif Sowing Season

The Kharif season is short and demanding. A little pre-season preparation ensures your Farmtrac is ready to work hard from day one, without costly breakdowns.

When the monsoon arrives, every day counts. The Kharif sowing window is short, and a tractor breakdown at the wrong moment can cost you an entire season. That is why smart farmers service their machines before the rush begins, not during it. Use this pre-season checklist to make sure your Farmtrac is field-ready when the first showers fall.

Service the Engine Early

Change the engine oil and filters, clean or replace the air filter, and check the fuel system for clean, water-free diesel. Starting the season with a freshly serviced engine avoids power loss and mid-field failures during peak ploughing and puddling.

Check Hydraulics and Implements

Inspect the hydraulic lift, top up the oil, and look for leaks around cylinders and pipes. Service your rotavator, cultivator and puddling implements too — sharpen or replace worn blades so land preparation is fast and clean.

  • Test the lift under load before the season starts
  • Sharpen or replace rotavator blades and tines
  • Grease all linkages and pivot points

Tyres, Brakes and Steering

Wet-field work demands good traction. Check tyre condition and pressure, test the brakes, and confirm the steering is smooth. For paddy puddling, correct rear tyres and ballast make a big difference to grip and fuel use.

Battery, Lights and Electricals

Monsoon means longer, wetter working hours and sometimes night work. Ensure the battery is fully charged, terminals are clean, and all lights and the horn work — safety first when visibility is poor.

  • Fully charge and clean the battery
  • Check headlights, tail-lights and indicators
  • Protect exposed connectors from moisture
The best time to service your tractor is before the season starts — not in the middle of sowing when every hour is precious.
